Indoor Events 2006

KENT COUNTY INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS 11th/12th March 06. The Kent County Indoor Track & Field Championships was held jointly with Surrey & Sussex at Carshalton's Sutton Arena, on 11th /12th March. Chloe Hurley Gale retained her Under 20 ladies 60 hurdles title. Dartford Harriers A.C.'s other gold medals came from Megan Edwards in the U/17 triple jump and Tim Billings in the U/15 60 hurdles. In the U/17 men, Jack Fox set a new Club Record in the triple jump, winning bronze. He had an epic battle with another Club Member, Tom Goodall, who was relegated to 4th whilst still managing to break the existing triple jump record. Goodall however, secured the silver medal in the long jump. Bronze medals were also won by Tim Billings, U/15 long jump, Joanna Coe, U/20 high jump & triple jump, Bridie Edwards, U/15 high jump, and Rosalind Seeley, U/17 60 hurdles. Rosalind Seeley, 60 hurdles 3rd 9.98:P long jump 4th 4.61. Chantelle Clare 60m (semi final) 8.34 (pb); long jump 5th 4.47: triple jump 4th 9.28. Rachel Ahern shot 4th 8.25; 60m (heat) 8.54). Nadine Terry 60m (heat) 8.68 (pb). Men: U/20: Paul Williams 60m (heat) 7.76. U/17: Jack Fox triple jump 3rd 12.27 (pb & club record); long jump 5th 5.69. Tom Goodall long jump 2nd 6.14; triple jump 4th 12.12 (pb) U/15: Tim Billings 60 hurdles 1st 10.06; long jump 3rd 5.05 (pb); shot 4th 9.52 (pb).

AAA National Indoor Championship 4th/5th March, at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena. Megan Edwards, fresh from U/17 triple jump silver in the Southern Indoor Championship, did well to leap out to 11.16 for 4th place at Birmingham. This mark was just outside the Club U/17 record.

The British Masters Campionships 4th/5th March 06. The British Masters Athletics Federation's Indoor Track & Field Championship took place at The University of Wales Indoor Stadium in Cardiff, in March 4th and 5th. Peter Field brought home silver in the M70 60m hurdles, timing 12.28 and also bronze in the 60m. with a time of 9.61. In the M65 category, Arthur Kimber won 1500m silver in 5:35.58, and bronze in the 800m in 2:47.29. Anne Goad, coming back from injury, was 6th in the W45 60m (9.35), 4th in the long jump (4.13) and 4th in the shot putt (8.95).

Sportshall Indoor Athletics, 26.02.06. The final of the Norwich Union Sportshall Indoor Athletics competitions took place at Guildford Spectrum Leisure Complex on Sunday 26th February, with some good individual successes for Dartford Harriers athletes; in the U/13 girls age group, Bridie Edwards won the high jump gold medal with a best performance of 1.40. Natalie Hickmott was 5th in the vertical jump and 6th in the 2 - lap race. U/15 Chantelle Clare gained two bronzes for the 4 -lap race and the vertical jump and was 6th in the shot. Jack Fox won bronze in the standing triple jump with 7.80.

Dortmund Open, Germany. 5th February. A small team from Dartford Harriers travelled to Germany to compete indoors against some tough European competitors from Germany, Holland and Italy. There were some great performances with wins for Chloe Hurley Gale, in the 60m hurdles, Elaine Murty in the 400m (61.93) and 2nd in the 800m (2.18.66) in the u20 womens events. In the senior mens events Ian Henderson won both his race heats in the 200m (23.4) and 400m (52.98), Andy Pickett came fourth in the 1500m (4.07.31). All three of these performances were new individual indoor personal bests for these two athletes. Alex Lee had excellent runs in the heat and semi final of the 60m finishings third (7.60) and fourth (7.64) respectively. In the womens 60m Kirsty Taylor finished second (8.22) in the semi final and fifth in the final (8.10) and in the 200m finished third in a time of 27.1secs.

SOUTHERN INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS. 21st/22nd January. Brunel University, Uxbridge, Middlesex with its magnificent indoor track and field facilities was the setting on 21st/22nd January for the Southern Indoor Championships. Four athletes from Dartford Harriers A.C. were amongst hundreds of competitors from the Southern Counties and the Channel Islands. Megan Edwards came home with the Under 17 triple jump silver medal with a leap of 10.80. Earlier in January, she broke the Club's indoor pentathlon record when competing at the Southern Combined Events Championships. Gavin Comber has come back successfully from a year of injury to take 4th in the U/20 mens 60m, in 7.03 secs. His semi final time of 7.02 was a personal best. Alex Lee, similarly plagued by injury, was 11th in the senior mens' long jump with 5.92m. Chloe Hurley Gale was 4th in the U/20 ladies 60m. hurdles heat, timing 9.58s. just missing out on a place in the finals.

SOUTHERN COUNTIES INDOOR PENTATHLON CHAMPIONSHIP 8th Jan 06. Athletes from all over the South of England converged on Sutton Arena, Surrey, for the Southern Counties Indoor Combined Events Championships on Sunday Jan 8th. Dartford Harriers A.C. was well represented in the pentathlon which includes 60m., high and long jump, shot putt and 60m. hurdles. Nine members of Alan Champion's coaching group performed well setting several personal bests and achieving three new Club Records. England international Grace Clements won the Senior Ladies event setting a Club record of 3655 points- over 200 pts ahead of second place. Megan Edwards in the U/17 category also achieved a Club record, with 3012 pts in 9th place. In the U/17 mens competition, Tom Goodall took 6th place, smashing the Club Record with 2874 pts. Other results:- ladies: U/20: Joanne Coe made her debut with 7th place and 2767 pts. U/17: Rosalind Seeley, 10th, 2964 pts. setting personal bests in all five events. Nadine Terry, 15th, 2494 pts. Men: U/20: David Thacker, debut, 12th, 2453 pts. U/17: Tom Morgan, 11th, 2763 pts.

AAA National Championships, Sheffield, Sat 14th & Sat 15th January. Grace Clements after winning the Southern Senior Championships last weekend was in action again at the AAA National Combined Events Championships at Sheffield last weekend. The event differs from the previous week, in that the 60m. is replaced with an 800m. run. Grace finished in 4th, breaking her own Club record with a score of 3714 pts, and also setting personal bests in the 60 hurdles and shot.
